Below is an overview of the most common symptoms for each STD, categorized by gender where applicable. Please note that many STDs (especially early on) may not show symptoms, meaning you could be infected without realizing it.

1. Chlamydia

Often occurs without symptoms, especially in women.
In women:

• Discharge (watery or yellow)
• Pain/bleeding during intercourse
• Abdominal pain
• Irregular bleeding
• Pain during urination

In men:

• Discharge from the penis
• Pain or burning sensation when urinating
• Testicular pain (epididymitis)

2. Gonorrhea

Symptoms usually appear within 2 to 10 days, but sometimes there are none.
In women:

• Heavy vaginal discharge
• Pain during urination
• Abdominal pain
• Intermenstrual bleeding

In men:

• Yellow/green pus-like discharge
• Severe pain during urination
• Sometimes swollen or painful testicles

3. Trichomonas

Often mild or asymptomatic, especially in men.
In women:

• Yellow/green, frothy vaginal discharge
• Itching or irritation
• Unpleasant odor
• Pain during sex or urination

In men:

• Burning sensation during urination or ejaculation
• Watery discharge

4. Ureaplasma urealyticum & 5. Ureaplasma parvum

Often asymptomatic. If symptoms do occur:
In women:

• Mild abdominal pain
• Discharge
• Pain during urination
• Sometimes vaginitis or fallopian tube infection

In men:

• Pain during urination
• Slightly watery discharge
• Epididymitis

6. Mycoplasma hominis

Often present without symptoms in healthy individuals.
Possible symptoms (mainly in women):

• Vaginal infections (bacterial vaginosis)
• Pelvic inflammatory disease
• Fertility issues

7. Mycoplasma genitalium

A “silent” STD, often without symptoms.
In women:

• Discharge
• Pain during urination
• Bleeding after intercourse
• Pelvic inflammatory disease

In men:

• Discharge
• Burning sensation during urination
• Sometimes epididymitis

8. HSV-1 (Oral Herpes)

• Cold sores: itching, tingling, and blisters around the mouth
• Can also cause genital herpes via oral sex

9. HSV-2 (Genital Herpes)

• Itching or burning sensation around the genitals
• Red spots, blisters, or sores
• Pain during urination
• Recurring outbreaks

10. HIV

Often no early symptoms. In the first few weeks, possible:

• Flu-like symptoms (fever, sore throat, muscle aches)
• Swollen lymph nodes
• Night sweats

In later stages (if untreated):

• Weight loss
• Recurrent infections
• Fatigue

11. Syphilis

Progresses in stages:
Primary stage:

• Painless sore on or around genitals, anus, or mouth

Secondary stage (weeks later):

• Skin rash
• Flu-like symptoms
• Hair loss

Late stages (if untreated):

• Nerve and organ damage

12. Hepatitis B

Sometimes asymptomatic, but may cause:

• Fatigue
• Nausea
• Jaundice (yellow skin/eyes)
• Dark urine
• Upper abdominal pain (liver area)
